The pool has no hills

Is a strained muscle self limiting without stopping running? I put a call in to my sports medicine doctor but didn't get a return call until after I had left to the Riverton pool. My pulled glute really doesn't hurt to run and it doesn't hurt after or the next morning either. But it's now been 3+ weeks and doesn't seem to be getting any better, even after 8 days of not running. So I'm going to deep water pool run until I can find out otherwise.

1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1 minute ladder with 1 minute recoveries. Total time: 60 minutes. The high intensity is done by really high turnover. The first minute of these feels right but after that my form begins to deteriorate and its hard to keep up the high turnover.

  1. Hang in there Jeff. I hope you hear back from the doc soon. Pool running is tough (well, boring), way to get in a nice workout!

  2. I struggle with pool running, even though it does seem to work on cardio....I feel that it doesn't work on form as I feel out of sorts and kind of hunched over when doing it....sure is better than doing nothing though.

I usually just end up swimming laps.

  3. I found that ladders were the only way to keep me interested in pool running, and I'd do hour long workouts and get my heart rate into the 170's. I ran Mt Washington in 2005 with virtually all my training in the pool. I was beaten by a 73 year old woman, but I finished. You should be in much better shape than I was so I think you'll be fine.

  4. Yeh I'm surprised how high I can get my HR in a pool. But the sensory feedback is wacked and after about a minute of high-intensity running, my form goes to hell.
